What is FHIR?

Last updated 3 years ago

FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resource, pronounced "fire") is a standardised way of managing and accessing healthcare resources. FHIR is increasingly seen as the future of healthcare interoperability, and Genie Solutions strongly advocates for the adoption of FHIR across the industry.

The Genie Partner API is built on FHIR standards, and you should be able to query any public FHIR server and receive responses similar if not identical to what the Genie Partner API will return.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, we recommend you check out the FHIR website for information on how it is implemented.

There are also several public test servers that you can check out to experiment with the capabilities of FHIR. We suggest that the HAPI FHIR public test server is a good place to start.
